Wait For Eight

During the long march of the Infinitus 888K, I spoke with Big Will numerous times and one time I mentioned that maybe when this bullshit is all over, I will write some poems.  So here is one that summarizes my experience.

At eight 'o eight, from BBH we originate
Our plan consummate, no pain we contemplate
Around the figure eight we oscillate
Underfoot ground rolls, flows, and undulates

Green Mountain State, mosquitos don't abate
Our efforts Nature's gamut renumerates
Sleep we prorate, never satiate
Feet carrying freight, changing gait they grate

Many days amalgamate, each loop of the figure eight
Concentrate, concentrate, concentrate, never capitulate
Our fate awaits, the outcome au fait
With our mates, no longer blate, time infinite

Barkley Fall Classic Poem

I put together a small poem in villanelle form to commemorate my experience at the Barkley Fall Classic back in September.

A thousand yard stare, eyes with tears glare.
No labor hath Hercules known, no deed can atone.
Walk with wanton abandon in hopeless despair.

Victims of treachery have become our fate.
Without remorse, Sisyphus rolls his stone.
A thousand yard stare, eyes with tears glare.

Running the course in our minds a debate.
The briars we bemoan, but condone.
Walk with wanton abandon in hopeless despair.

Passing Rat Jaw straights, in shoes blood collates.
Many trips over stones, nary a talent shone.
A thousand yard stare, eyes with tears glare.

Please, please where is the nearest interstate?
It would be best to just leave this all alone.
Walk with wanton abandon in hopeless despair.

Please allow me to recriminate, desecrate.
The final reckoning shan’t be postponed.
A thousand yard stare, eyes with tears glare.
Walk with wanton abandon in hopeless despair.

Ode to My Hill

Running out at Comanche Lookout Park yesterday, I felt like jotting down a fun poem or a play on homophones in the English language.  I've done quite a bit of run training in this small park and wanted to honor it in some way.  Everyone needs a hill, a place to challenge themselves.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I cried a tear, climbing your tier
Whilst tearing the tor
Your course, coarse
Through the gravel floe, mind in flow
I’ve made a peace with this small piece

I’d felt weak all week.
Hearing pleas of please
Running I need, my quads I knead
And my heel, now healing
Bidding you marque, making a mark

The trails not new, each turn I knew
However in the mist, I missed
Sitting idle, dreaming of idols
A small hare, sweat in my hair
What do I hear, here?

I’m born again, being borne
Nevermore mourning in the morning
Desire whet, with water tongue wet
Through every groan, I’ve grown
Seeing a hart, warming my heart
Through your thyme, I pass my time

Camaraderie's Ode

Some write post race reports, here is my thoughts on the time spent on Ometepe at Fuego y Agua:

Camaraderie's Ode

For glory we seek
An island we meet
Hopes and dreams, fulfill
Display the human will

Erstwhile imperious, forthwith conspiring
Inspired, inspiring, hearts desiring
Each cohort to another
Becoming sister and brother

Intrepid marching we began
Through mud, through dirt, through sand
Volcanoes climbed, scarcely marking time
Dispositions sublime, others benign

Some stumble, some fall
Together facing all
Trouble here, here, and here
Lend an ear, hear my fear

Treachery known, together grown
Champion's seeds, now sown
Looking right, looking left
Nay of friends, bereft

Ode To Adipose

It's not you,
It's the adipose I loathe
Slim and lean,
Without adipose, Whom I betroth
Under your skin, a growth
However slightly of adipose
Smoothly rounding, skin glowed
Subcutaneous adipose
Later, above your knees
Cottage cheese I did see
Adipose around your waist,
Adipose in your face,
My favor displaced
Adipose in your wrists
Can you even make a fist
Baby, It's the adipose I loathe

Class of 1996

We had our 15 year class reunion over the weekend. Coming from a small town, these are usually a pretty cool thing to go to, because you kinda know everybody. Figured I write up a little something to commemorate the event. Maybe you like it, maybe you dont:

Can you believe we're here
We've faced fears, cried tears
We drank a few beers
Through these years

Our hearts soften, those jeers of yesteryear
Listening intently do we hear, a cheer
Through these years

The good times, we'll hold dear
But our loved ones, we'll hold near
Through these years

Moonlight

Since it's like the biggest moon tonight in the last 20 years, figured I'd write a poem to commemorate the event.

Through window, moonlight glows
A depression left in your pillow I see
You've never been further from me

It's been our companion and friend
On the beach, in sand it glowed
Our bodies entwined in love throes
It reflected off the lake
Between us, love we did make
We gazed upon it in fields of flowers
Our love, it's awesome power

A depression left in your pillow I see
Come back to me

Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Smoke billows as crescendo grows
Remembering youth, days of ole
Resting my head, feather pillow
Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Straight line, winds make cusp
Back then, was it us
I’ve tried the wine, just fine
Laying here, marking time
Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Allegrissio, images appear
Never catching the ones
I hold, most dear
Fear keeping us apart
For you dear, my heart, my heart
Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Prestissimo, and although
Around and around, mind goes
Must hold image, Sostenuto
There you are, and far away
Barely can see you, through the haze
Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Misterioso, can I feel
When you were near, so near
Track changes, now Chopin
Washing it all away
A miner, with a pan
Marlboros and a Bach Concerto

Onward

Onward, Onward, Onward
I run, Onward into the sun
Reaching for you, cannot grasp
Calling for you, voice rasp
Yearning for you, void remains
Love for you, always restrained
Passion for you, never fulfilled
Feel with me, this invoidable will
Onward I run, into the sun

Poem For You

I remember us then
Were just kids, rail thin
In rain played, by day
Danced and laughed, what'd you say
Love me forever, yes ever

Hair blowin wind, bills set in
Wishin, we were rail thin
Go out on Friday, we may
Must meet responsibilitays
Love me forever, maybe never

A Poem For Your Thoughts

Upon a star love, we wished
Blue cheese devoured with ease
As over wine, we dined
Sun setting, waves cresting
Many seagulls 'a festing
Thistle thyme, passing time
Over mountain for love, climb
Upon a star love, we wish

Mountain Laurels Blooming

I left for work a few mornings ago, and noticed that the mountain laurels were blooming. Mountain Laurels only bloom once a year, and the blooms are beautiful. I wrote a few lines, I hope that you will enjoy.

Mountain Laurels Blooming:

The dew fell on the mountain laurel blooms

Flowers glistening, purple hue
A blanket spread in the meadow there
Heather blooming, we had no care
Could we know, sun low
Whether love wither, love grow

Thrice loved, Twice hated
Time passed, love abated
Apart together we travel
Till judge rings the gavel
When mountain laurels bloom
